Breaking the neck of the RAPISTS, burning them at the stakes, chopping off their Ds, or naming and shaming them won't reduce, let alone eradicate the crime of RAPE. You don't treat cancer by simply decapitating the affected limb. Alongside prosecuting the criminals, conscious
efforts must equally be made to attack d root cause of this menace as well as other vices bedeviling d society. The root cause of most of these evils is d loss of values:
Family values
Societal values
National values

What kind of parents are we & how are we raising our children?
The failure of the home is what we are witnessing today in terms of social degeneration. So, we should begin by addressing the parents. Irresponsible parents birth and breed irresponsible children who grow up to behave irresponsibly. Many parents have abdicated their roles of
inculcating moral values in their children.

The society has also lost its values. What kind of moral values are we promoting? Most music, movies & adverts are all about sexualisation & objectification of women, promotion of violence against women, evil lyrics, drugs abuse, etc.
What are idolised persons in the society promoting?
Olamide Baddo in Story for the gods was shouting "I want to do Zinā today". His "science students" nkọ? What was he promoting?
Naira Marley's "o po to yi?"
Wande Coal's "Booty call?"
These are just a few example of the cancer
eating deep into our moral fabrics.

Until we tackle all of these, rape is just a symptom. Someone that's high on drugs will rape even an animal. Someone that has taken local aphrodisiac will rape a day old child. Someone without home training will penetrate a car's exhaust pipe.
The porosity of the internet and exposure of young people to pornographic contents is another major evil that's connected to rape. A lot of censorship needs to be done by government to curtail access to these evils. We can't continue to romance & celebrate purveyors of evil.
Do we even have a national value? Here, corrupt people are protected and celebrated. Religious bodies practise "touch not my anointed". The rich and influential get away with huge crimes while the downtrodden and weak gets the maximum punishment for the least of crimes..#shame
