@meownalisa22 - My father worked in a marquee Departmental store in Delhi called Empire Stores (old timers will recall this place in Connaught Place) as a Cashier. We were a large family living in a Single BR home of RBI.
Earlier, I wrote about my brother who joined as Steno and retired as DGM of RBI. My bro-in-law, started as LDC in GoI, but worked his butt off, became a Company Secretary and eventually became GM in Vijaya Bank.
My sis # 1 she used to work in '50s became an entrepreneur till she quit recently. My another sis, studied through Corr. course in B.A. English because my father could not afford her education. As soon as she completed her Stenography course with BA,
she got a temp job in American Express and after that she never looked back. She has handled multiple US Aid projects that empower women across the globe.
One of our old time neighbours (we know from '45 onwards), that man started as a Clerk in GoI went to the level of Jt. Secretary or above rank in GoI. His daughter was part of Planning Commission.
Another family whom we know from '45 onwards. One son joined GoI thru competitive exam became LDC. Then he took the next exam got promoted. He became relentless and became an IAS. My father fired his younger brother's imagination.
This boy got selected in the National Science Talent exam. Went onto do Ph.D. in the then nascent areas of Bio-Technology from premier college of London. His work was recognized so much so that he was nominated for Nobel Prize in early 2000s.
So anyone whining and crying about bad luck and lack of opportunities is all bullshit and excuses. What is lacking is not opportunity but lack of attitude and will power to stay and persevere. Rest is all bullshit.
Only when one a person work his / her butt off, in any field, will they realize the value of money and hardwork. Everyone has to earn their spurs, so to say and be willing to walk the talk and not sermon from pulpits.
Some of the very highly accomplished people such as @RajiIndustani @wataboutery - I respect them because what they have done and accomplished through their own dint. Am sure there will be many more.
So, @meownalisa22 my apologies if am sounding like giving a bhaasha, but wear the hardships that your family or anyone close to your family is undergoing as a badge of honour. As long as we have two hands and two legs we can survive in this world.
And always, respect yourself. Keep faith and self confidence. The notes of @HelloNNewman @anexcommie @GanesanJC and others were the triggers. And also this will be the starting point in response to the wonderful note of @GoofyOlives .
