After the outstanding performance of the US Marines during WWI, Army leadership did not want a repeat performance of Marines upstaging the Army again at Normandy. Marines were held back from participating directly in the landings on June 6, 1944. However... 2/3
Marines were assigned to the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and conducted clandestine combat operations against the German forces in France. On D-Day a few Good Marine observers were also attached to Army landing forces. #DDay2020 #DDay76
