Friends, there is not a protest in my hometown. In fact, I remembered that my high school was the subject of an A&E episode about racism.

The next major towns over - Bethlehem and Allentown - both have had BLM demonstrations. Which is very good.
Another nearby small town - Quakertown - had to cancel student demonstrations because of Facebook threats of vigilantes coming in with guns. mcall.com/news/local/mc-…

Hellertown is...a weird place. I don't like going home, cuz honestly, it never really felt like home in the first place.

Sidenote: 2% is the average stated in the documentary, taped in 2017. When I was there a decade before, I had ONE black classmate out of 200. We were good friends through graduation. His dad was a doctor who put me in a cast when I broke bones as a dumb kid.
So that's a thing.

Anyway, this A&E documentary came out. It's on Youtube for $2. So I sucked it up and watched it.
And lemme tell you, my hometown hasn't changed one bit.
I'm not going to give a play by play of the documentary ep, but I'm not at ALL surprised that there are no demonstrations in Hellertown.
But I'm also left wanting to do...something?

Philly is more home than Hellertown ever was or will be for me. But is there a way for me to be a better Ally as an alumni?
