In 1885, Leopold was handed the 'Congo Free State' for his own personal rule, through the help of explorer Henry Morton Stanley. Ostensibly, it belonged to him, although his requested mission was to 'help' the locals. /2 
In the 1890s, natural rubber became a highly prized commodity, and a mad scramble began to tap almost every available resource of the stuff. Locals were forced into labour, under penalty of torture, mutilation or death. /3
The local police, the Force Publique, were expected to cut the hands off anyone they shot dead, to prove that they hadn't been wasting ammunition. Quite often, to cover their tracks, they cut the hands off the living. /4
Torture, punishment and the destruction of villages were also tools used by local officials and their troops to keep the rubber flowing to customers in Europe. /5
Additionally it is thought that millions of Congolese died of introduced diseases, maltreatment and starvation - all at the hands of incompetent and brutal administrators, all to enrich *one* man. /6
Again, this is not on behalf of the Belgian nation. The Congo Free State' belonged to Leopold. He was the owner. He knew what was occurring, he saw the accounts. /7
In fact, such was the horror at was going on, that a report was prepared for the British, detailing atrocities. When it released, such was the uproar and shame that Leopold had to give up the Congo Free State in 1908, at the urging of the Belgian government. /8
Now, I know you're not too bright, Paul, but this is one amazing case of dumbfuckery. You picked the one monarch of the modern world most associated with the genocide of Africans as you little performative stunt. /9
