What responsibilities to #worship leaders have when it comes to choosing these songs for worship? 2/
I think the time is over where #worship leaders say, “I’m just here to sing my songs to the Lord. I don’t have involvement in racism.” 3/
Singing the theologies of the organizations who uphold white supremacy is complicity in racism. #worship leaders bear this responsibility every week when we pick out our songs without knowing the stories or the industries they come from. 4/
To give a little context, I always thought it was funny that ppl sang CCM #worship in other parts of the world outside of English-speaking countries. But THEN, I met Shadia Qubti, a Palestinian Christian in Jerusalem. She brought it all together with this post in 2017: 5/
Basically, a v famous CCM #worship group (hillsong) come to her hometown with conservative American politicians and declare that she didn't exist as a Palestinian Christian on HER turf. A lot of awareness resulted in an apology, but still. 7/
And let’s not forget when a bunch of them visited the White House and advocated for the government. (Dec 2019)
