Over the past week, jumped with joy several times at the ways in which #BEEFNetflix beautifully understood and portrayed the nuances of underlying rage, Korean men rage, shame, assimilation, Korean church culture, talking to your inner child, self-acceptance..1/
..class divides, socio-economic divides, Orientalism, kindred spirits, trauma bonding, family codependency, honor/shame culture, religiosity, and mental health. Many of us were planning IG Lives, streaming, podcasts, talks and furiously group texting each other. 2/

On this day in 1942, Japanese Americans were mass incarcerated and corralled into race track stables via FDR's #ExecutiveOrder9066.
The reasoning? They thought all Japanese Americans (living in America) were responsible for Japan's actions during WWII. 1/#Executiveorder9066 was suspended almost 3 years later, at the end of 1944. The order wasn't officially terminated until 1976. People lost property, jobs, and businesses. They returned to only a fraction of what they had before. 2/

Reflecting on the continued feeling of a perpetual foreigner. My kids are the only Asians in their grades. They told me last night that kids all around them use racial slurs against Asians so much that even they don't feel like it's a big deal anymore. 1/
I talked with them about the decisions they can make when they hear such things directed at them or yelled out randomly. I told them that #1: It's not ok when ppl use racial slurs ("ching chong," etc) at any time, at any point, even if they're having fun.

Hey everyone, I want to share something with you.
For years, I've been silent about Chris Heuertz, one of the main spiritual #enneagram authors. He's published 2 books about it. 1/
In 2020, 33 people came forward to expose Chris for spiritual abuse, especially young women of color. There was a formula for his abuse and everything bit.ly/3TYkzvZ 2/

As a worship leader/speaker in many different Christian conferences, I’ve noticed that across most of them, attendance is down. Evangelicals, Mainline, EXvangelicals, progressive, social justice, etc.
Translated: Gatherings cannot look the same as they once were. 1/
The fancy headliners, cool bands, cool lights, entertainment, videos, production, etc. is not drawing the same #’s of ppl in person anymore. What does this mean? As a liturgist with @kinshipcommons, my guess… 2/

It's #AAPIHeritageMonth! I've always been a little overwhelmed at how to honor #APIDA/NHPI stories, esp after such overexposure in recent years. I've been processing a lot over the past, present, and future ... 1/
We can tell stories to complicate the binaries of black/white in the U.S. We can address racial triangulation and wedge dynamics. We can address overlaying and intermingled theologies that make up our faith , about how we see God and the church. #AAPIHeritageMonth 2/

When I moved to my favorite city in 2016, I had no intentions of working at an Evangelical megachurch. Trump hadn’t been elected yet. The Chicago campus of Willow was still meeting at the historic Auditorium Theater. 1/
When I got a random call to be Program Lead/Creative Director, I had no idea what I was really getting into. I didn’t know who I would meet or what the journey ahead would look like.
I remember God distinctly saying to me, “Angie, I want to show you something.” 😳 2

I know ccm #worship is not everyone’s thing, but I’ve been mulling over the worship music industry lately as it relates to racial justice... It’s so complicit in holding up white supremacy but ppl all around the world sing these songs everyday.1/
What responsibilities to #worship leaders have when it comes to choosing these songs for worship? 2/

I have taken a break from evangelical conferences, both intentionally and unintentionally. And this has been necessary for me to be liberated and be creatively free. This may sound corny, but I thank God for the courage and space for discernment and clarity! #worship#comingsoon
For the first time since 2014 my voice doesn’t feel broken. I am writing songs again. I’ve met some really cool ppl. Collabs with world renown musicians. Book deals and job offers. Letting go of the old/familiar has been the best thing!

A white boy came up to my son at baseball practice and said ,”you look like you’re from Japan. You look like you came straight from Tokyo.” 1/
My son didn’t say anything. I didn’t say anything. It was our first day, we were surrounded by white ppl in the south. #notsafe 2/
