Good Day! We're out with new research from our hardworking team at @angusreidorg - this time focusing on the future of #WorkFromHome & other economic impacts of #COVID19. Follow along while I walk you through it!
To start, you can read the full report, download detailed data tables, access the questionnaire and learn about the methodology here: angusreid.org/coronavirus-wo…
The BIG takeaway from today's study? Among those #workingfromhome due to #COVID19, two-thirds do NOT expect they'll return to their office or place of work full time when this is all over:
This represents a big chunk of Canadian workers, by the way. Nearly 3-in-10 say they have been bivouaced at a coffee, kitchen or patio table since the pandemic sent office denizens home:
Looking at this another way, more than two-in-five Canadian households have been affected. That's a lot of households!
So how do these remote workers feel about their situations? It's been a combination of the satisfaction of getting more tasks done combined with mixed feelings over the emotional toll: #COVID19#WorkFromHome
Here's what's interesting ... consistent minority segments, regardless of their household composition, say the experience has been "awful" for their mental health ... but those at home alone, or just with their partner/spouse, are much more likely to say it's been "great"
The experience has also been significantly harder on younger women, especially in terms of the impact on mental health:
Another major finding in today's @angusreidorg study is the more pessimistic mindset among those who've lost lost work since the #COVID19 pandemic was declared....
First of all, the number of people who have reported lost work is leveling off - so that's something:
BUT LOOK AT THIS. The number of those who have been hit by job loss are now TWICE as likely to either doubt they're going to have a job to return to, or are convinced it's gone for good. Yikes 😥
Among this group, the vast majority have applied for - and received - financial assistance from government:
....And among those who have received those emergency funds, nearly half says it's been a "lifeline" for them.
Finally, we asked Canadians whether they think, on the economic front, the worst is over or yet to come. Overall, they are near-evenly divided, but check out the significant differences regionally:
So those are the key findings from today's new data. But if you want to dig in further, there's lots more information to be found here: angusreid.org/coronavirus-wo….
Thanks as always for following along. Stay healthy and safe!

Hello. Today, June 23, is commemorated as National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism. How many Canadians know why? The answer, very sadly, is very few. But I'm going to make a thread about this that I hope will be informative ... I invite you to follow along. #airindia
Last year, I mused out loud in this op-ed for @ottawacitizen about how many Canadians would know why June 23 is important in our history....ottawacitizen.com/opinion/column…
As a pollster, I am uniquely positioned to ask Canadians. So I decided to find out.
Hi. This is the National Day of Remembrance of Victims of Terrorism. I must remember next year to poll on what Canadians think originated this day.
A thread ... I invite you to follow along.
If I was guessing, I'd guess significant numbers of people in this country think the worst incident of terrorism perpetrated on Canadian citizens was 9/11. Others might think of the Nova Scotia shootings, the attack on Parliament Hill, or something else.
It was in fact, the bombings of Air India Flight 182 (and the coordinated bombing of a CP jetliner in Tokyo). These attacks killed 331 people.
First, here's more info about how to access and watch:
Lots of conscientious planning + work goes into producing these debates. I'm the public face of it, but seasoned, smart, passionate BC political journalists are doing a lot of heavy lifting. This amazing team will be come together to discuss & decide on the q's leaders will face.
Hey Hey Happy Wednesday everyone. We've been working hard at @angusreidorg and can show you our latest federal vote intention numbers. Follow along as I walk you through them.
To begin, you can read the full report, download detailed tables, read up on methodology and fielding dates here: angusreid.org/federal-politi…
This was a survey of more than 5000 Cdns coast to coast so we can look at lots of different data cuts, (& we will) but here's the main story: 3 weeks from a Throne Speech & possible election, @liberal_party & @CPC_HQ are tied in voter intention among decided voters: #cdnpoli
Secondly, it's time for my usual disclaimer. Yes, PEI we ❤️you. Yes, you are DEFINITELY a part of Canada. No we didn't forget you. No, we can't include your premier due to small sample sizes based on small population. Same as we can't include territorial leaders for that reason.
