In Georgia prior to the removal of the voting rights act by the supreme court in 2013, a bill that was passed in the 60's, any reduction in polling places had to be approved by the feds, through the DOJ. @SpeakerPelosi
All that stopped. The secretary of state in Georgia is responsible for the entire voting process which he works in part with the board of elections. The local areas may approve changes and reductions to polling places, but they do not serve as independent entities in Georgia,
able to do what they please. It is all with the secretary of states approval and consent and the state electoral board consent.
The governor is republican, the secretary of state is republican, and has been for quite a while. The only way for local people to upset this
mechanism is through personal lawsuit as a group action which occasionally but not always, will remedy things.
The appropriation to counties for things like voting and polling places is by the state legislature, which is republican and has been also for quite some time.
The poorer places can not spend money they do not have, and as a result they cannot continue the polling places as their personal taxation revenue does not provide the funds to do so.@JoeBiden
