@seeker_ng I'm no expert on some of the factors you mentioned, but:

1) Cross-reactivity: my understanding is that it may cause false positives in serological tests, therefore true seroprevalence would be lower than the study suggests, which is the opposite of your hypothesis
@seeker_ng 2) T-cell response: how would it interfere with serological studies?

3) Vit D: I find research suggesting that a deficiency in Vit D is associated to somewhat lowel levels of IgG, but no research has shown that IgG is lowered to the point where the antibodies are undetectable
@seeker_ng Furthermore these factors (cross-reactivity, T-cell response, Vit D) are unique at the individual level, so they would average out among large serosurveys of thousands of participants. Therefore they cannot explain the seroprevalence disparity among different regions / countries.
@seeker_ng The photo you presented of people walking outdoors in Spain is taken with a telephoto lens which makes it seem people are very close to each other, when in fact they are spread apart. People in the background are probably 200-300 meters from those in the foreground.
@seeker_ng Another important point that thelancet.com/journals/lance… made is that if the progress of the epidemic was truly stopped by herd immunity, there is no clear explanation why the cumulative per-capita mortality rate from COVID-19 has plateaued at different levels in different countries
@seeker_ng Bottom line, no, herd immunity is not why the epidemic slowed down in Europe. Strong lockdowns have worked. This is the simplest, logical explanation.
