Over 12 000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today in the world

Exponential growth is observed in 14 of the 15 countries with the most cumulative cases (exception: South Korea)

Cases are multiplying by 10 every 14 days, and show no sign of slowing down.

Here are the cumulative charts of the number of COVID-19 cases.

I excluded China to better show the evolution happening outside this country.

The exponential growth, 10x every 14 days, has been shockingly constant since early February.

Now deaths.

Over 350 COVID-19 deaths were reported today in the world.

Italy and Iran account for about two thirds of them.

Cumulative charts show the exponential growth of deaths is more severe than cases: deaths multiply by 10x every 10 days (cases do 10x in 14 days)

So the fatality ratio is *worsening*. This is due to Italy's healthcare system collapsing under the sheer number of patients to treat

You'll notice I switched my charts to use @OurWorldInData's data repository (ourworldindata.org/coronavirus-so…)

Previously I used JHU CSSE's data repository (github.com/CSSEGISandData…)

The former has cleaner data (it tracks WHO's reports) but the stats seem to lag by about 24 hours.

Now: country-specific charts: NEW daily cases in China, Italy, Iran, South Korea:

- China's full lockdown continues to be very successful at containment
- disease spreading rapidly in Italy, Iran
- South Korea situation is not as straightforward:

In Spain, France, Germany, US, the disease is still spreading rapidly.

2 of these 4 countries (Spain, France) have issued countrywide lockdown orders. Germany is about to. The US are dragging their feet.
