Hey everyone! I did a thing today. #FPGA Recall that tweet by @fpga_dave? Well, that day I ended up sending a message to @LatticeSemi via their web form. I didn't actually expect a reply. However, they DID.

And so I replied to that email, with a longer response expressing some of my thoughts of the state of the relationship with the open source community and an invitation to discuss in more detail. I didn't expect a reply there, either. But they DID.
2/
@LatticeSemi invited me to a conference call with 3 of their senior execs. I accepted! As I don't think I'm qualified to be the spokesperson for the open source community, I arranged for @esden to join me on the call. He was of course his usual charismatic & informative self

This past weekend, I wrote up some notes in preparation for today's conference call. At some point it seemed to grow into practically a manifesto.

Many people helped me over the weekend. I'd like to extend a big thanks to @olofKindgren, @matthewvenn, @whitequark, @fpga_dave, and @oe1cw for all the really great feedback and suggestions for my notes. Extra big thanks to @mithro who took time to have a video chat with me.

After my notes were essentially complete and already a bit long, @securelyfitz sent me a few suggestions via DM. They were so well written, I asked for them in an email that I would forward to my new contacts at @LatticeSemi

I learned a lot about the history of the open source community relationship with @LatticeSemi. For the most part, as everyone probably knows: it has been one of tolerance. But... other options such as promotion or more active engagement are being regularly evaluated there.
7/
I think the call went quite well! Better than I could have really expected. @LatticeSemi is definitely interested in improving the relationship with the open source community! This is not a surprise, given their recent prompt response to @fpga_dave
8/
Before you get too excited, the primary message is *patience*. However, the message is also that @LatticeSemi is listening and thinking about how to best proceed for a mutually beneficial relationship with the open source community! (how cool is that!?!) 😎
9/
I also learned that within the last few months, @LatticeSemi has decided to begin taking baby steps to that next level of "Promote"! This step will involve featuring open source boards such as the @1bitsquared iCEBreaker and @RadionaOrg ULX3S ON THE @LatticeSemi web site!
10/
There have of course been many other people involved over the course of literally many years. I certainly don't deserve any credit for any sort of accomplishment. I think I just happened to have an opportunity to be a messenger at just the right time.
11/
@LatticeSemi wants to hear from you! They are open to discussion. Let's continue to grow this relationship.
12/
Some of you already have a contact at @LatticeSemi. Everyone is of course welcome to provide feedback via their web form:

If however you'd like me to pass along something more directly to @LatticeSemi, please feel free to send me a DM.

I'm certainly excited to share this #FPGA news with the open source community!😎😃👍😍 #BabySteps

* I mistyped @oe1cxw, above in #5; thank you for your feedback over the weekend.
