Here goes... four days of learning and discussions about sexual misconduct prevention in higher education! #CallingTimeConference @ucl @UKCultureShift
First, a demo by @Gezzabelle of @UKCultureShift’s Report & Support system. It’s great to hear that many HEIs are trying to understand more about student/staff misconduct & encourage survivors to report their victimisation. #CallingTimeConference @reportsupport_
Next, a Q&A with @clarissajdh about her new book with @ProfGrahamTowl: Addressing Student Sexual Violence in Higher Education.

Their model of a comprehensive institution-wide approach to tackling SV (below) is a really interesting contribution.

A crucial point made by @clarissajdh: A HEI that reports NO student disclosures of sexual violence is one that does not have in place robust or accessible reporting systems.

Put another way: Sexual violence happens at every university, but not every university tries to stop it!
Day Two! A great initial session from @M_Moutoussis and colleagues from UCL, @alice_king12 (@warwickuni) and @Megs__Reynolds (@QUBelfast) on attitudes and barriers to sexual violence reporting (summaries below) 🗣 #CallingTimeConference
Lots of suggestions for managingn sexual violence from colleagues at @ucl, spanning more relationship education and a better understanding of the impacts of SV on students health and progression.

Some accessible suggestions for positive change from Fiona Kinsella below: Suggestions for change
@alice_king12 spoke us through the initial findings of her PhD research that explores student attitudes towards the acceptability of common sexual behaviours at @RussellGroup unis.

More on Alice’s RQs below, for anyone interested in her research! #CallingTimeConference #PhDchat Overarching researching aims
Lastly, @Megs__Reynolds presented her work into the prevalence of USEs in #HE. Her talk underlined the importance of regular reporting of USEs by HEIs in aiding our understanding of the breath of sexual violence and the efficacy of interventions to tackle the issue. #PhDTwitter Prevalence of USEs in HE
Next, @GeorginaCLee, @t_haismanpage & @anna_bull_ introduce the new @1752Group/#McAllisterOlivarius sector-level guidance, which provides recommendations for reporting & investigating student complaints of staff sexual misconduct in #HE.

Next, we hear about @MonashUni’s internationally-leading work on tackling GBV. This includes having internal departments dedicated to harm prevention, mandatory trainings for incoming students, & their wide-reaching #RespectNowAlways initiative. Image
Perhaps most importantly, all of @MonashUni’s policies and interventions are evidence based. They are also actively supported by their Vice Chancellor (@GardmarM) and other senior leaders. #bestpractice

Below is a roadmap outlining Monash’s journey to primary prevention of GBV. Roadmap to primary prevention
It was a privilege to hear #FionaDrouet of @Emilytest12 share the amazing campaigning work that she has done into GBV prevention at universities in the UK (some examples of which are listed below).

To be able to translate such heartache into positive change is astounding. Image
Here is a list of steps that Fiona recommends universities take to further tackle GBV and make campuses safer. More on their website: emilytest.co.uk

Day three starts with a great talk from @DrJaneMeyrick & @n_higsonsweeney on student experiences of sexual violence & the concept of earned disclosure.

The findings of their campus climate survey were very illuminating—I look forward to hearing more! #CallingTimeConference @ucl
Now, Drs. Bill Flack (@BucknellU), Kathryn Holland (@UNLincoln) & Kevin Swartout (@GeorgiaStateU) introduce their ARC3 survey: a FREE robust, reliable, & evidence-based campus climate survey for SV perpetration & victimisation.

Some initial findings from their pilot below: Pilot study findings
As emphasised over the last 3 days, such a comprehensive & accessible survey is a necessity for HEIs in the UK presently. How else can we understand the scope of sexual assault on our campuses and develop evidence-based initiatives to tackle the issue? #CallingTimeConference @ucl Modules of the ARC3
The below quote sums up the issue perfectly. In short: MEASURE, UNDERSTAND, then TACKLE!

Huge thanks to @WFFlackJR, Kathryn (@UNLPsych) and Kevin (@GSUPsych) for their insights and answering our questions.

What a great 3 days! I’ve really enjoyed learning from & networking with colleagues across the globe who, like so many of us, are working tirelessly to prevent GBV in HE. My notebook is exploding with ideas! ✍🏽

I can’t wait for next year’s #CallingTimeConference
A huge thanks to @UKCultureShift (@Gezzabelle & @ChelseaMayMaher), @ucl/@UCLEqualities, @KelseyPaske & other moderators. And all the amazing presenters!

Personal highlight: Hearing about all the great #PhD research being conducted across the country. Now to write up my notes! ✍🏽
