Unions say AT&T has informed them that the company will be laying off another 3,400 employees over the next few weeks.

For those playing along at home, that's 41,000 job cuts since Trump gave AT&T a $42 billion tax cut in 2017.
Oh, the death of #netneutrality consumer protections were also supposed to create jobs and result in massive network investment. In both cases the exact opposite happened.

The CWA email blast to the media includes this table that breaks down all of the AT&T layoffs since King Trump gave the company a $42 billion tax cut (and billions more in regulatory favors) in exchange for bupkis.
flashback to 2017, when AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson promised that the Trump tax cuts would create thousands of high paying ($70-80K) jobs.

Whoops! Guess not. And absolutely nobody in US government will hold AT&T accountable. Like, at all.

It blows my mind to dig through news coverage of AT&T's layoffs and find almost NO mention by 97% of outlets that we just threw $42+ billion in tax breaks and regulatory favors at AT&T for absolutely nothing:

And we wonder why US history repeats itself.
the company repeatedly, often on live TV, promised a massive investment boom and job growth in exchange for this mammoth cash and FCC regulatory giveaway. We got jack shit.

The corruption and grift IS the story. Yet it's not even mentioned by the majority of major outlets.
Reuters, for example, informs readers that the layoffs are largely pandemic related, despite the 41,000 job cuts having come in a steady stream since 2017!

Zero mention of the billions in tax cuts or empty promises by Stephenson.

would it kill outlets to include ONE sentence in their stories on the AT&T layoffs like: "AT&T previously promised thousands of new jobs after receiving billions in tax credits and regulatory favors?"

In 3 years when your cell phone bills soar and the pink slips arrive, please be sure to complain that nobody warned you.
Also be sure to note in three years how all of the people who advocated for this deal will face absolutely no repurcussions for having done so.
I mean we go through this time and time and time again and nobody learns anything whatsoever from the experience.

Perhaps we deserve to be clutched in Comcast's clammy embrace for all eternity.

People still don't understand that the FCC repeal of #netneutrality did a lot more than just kill net neutrality.

It gutted FCC oversight of ISPs, punting much of it to an already overworked FTC with shaky authority over telecom.

An example of this new order in practice...
Back in August Senator Quigley sent a letter to the FCC, asking it to, you know, do something about the way ISPs rip off consumers with modem and gateway rental fees, which saddle users with unnecessary costs.

Pai's response in a letter this week basically shovels the responsibility for doing anything over to the FTC, who'll probably do nothing about the problem.

This is how the broadband industry wanted this little game to work.

As a journalist that has also had #lymedisease, I can understand why a lot of patients are frustrated with this article.

It spends 95% of its sizeable length fixated on quackery, but not the US health care treatment failures driving desperate patients to these options.
Up to 20% of Lyme patients continue to have symptoms post antibiotic treatment. The US health care system has NO idea why or how to treat them.

That's a 20% treatment failure rate on a raging epidemic driving desperate patients to quackery. THAT is the story.
So many journalists new to #lymedisease see all the desperate patients trying dubious alt-health nonsense, and get oddly and exclusively fixated on that.

But the US health care system is TERRIBLE to these patients. Testing is poor. Misdiagnosis is common.
