I've been just as frustrated & dismayed by the lack of progress on this issue as anybody. Two young workers have lost their lives - countless others are sick. We need resources and support from our government. But the finger pointing & blame game is not helping. 1/6 #onpoli #yqg

So what do we need to solve this?

"Mandatory" testing is unclear/problematic. Though the mayor acknowledges you can't force people to get tested, many will read it that way.

We need to be very specific about what exactly should be "mandatory" in order to resolve the issue. 2/6

For example, what about mandatory compliance measures for employers?

I'm talking about mandatory supports/standards like sick pay, job security, and protections from reprisal and loss of income if workers need time off to get tested, or have to recuperate when they're sick. 3/6

Interpreters on hand, in a consistent manner, so workers clearly know their rights, risks, and can share information.

Mandatory protection for workers that raise & report unsafe work or living conditions backed by laws & regulations to ensure employer compliance. 4/6

Mandatory & adequate PPE for workers, sanitizing stations, clean housing & facilities with the same living conditions we expect for our own families.

OHIP or similar healthcare coverage so workers who become ill aren’t hesitant to access help because they can’t afford it. 5/6

We all have the same goal - we don't want ppl to get sick or die. But it's happening, and will continue, unless Premier Ford finally steps up with clear directives & resources. The solutions are his to give.

We as local leaders must stop the blame game & unite in this call. 6/6

Also should mention @PercyHatfield was at Queen's Park today, addressing the Premier directly with regard to these proposals/solutions. @TarasNatyshak has also been urging the Premier to act for *weeks*
