I am trying to fill in gaps in information on the events that led to the violent face-off on the intervening night of June 15/16....here is a thread based on what I have gathered so far....#LadakhBorder
1. After the June 6 meeting between the army commanders of India and China, it was agreed that both the forces will move back in order to disengage
2. The Chinese forces had a camp on a ledge above Patrol Point 14. The earlier position of the tent/tents was Galwan river bed
3. Moving up the camp gave the Chinese a better view of the area. In order to see whether the Chinese had removed the tent/tents, a patrol of around dozen troopers led by a major was sent.
4. The CO rushed another contingent to deal with the situation. The Chinese who had an upper position being on the ledge asked the CO to come up with a small team otherwise they threatened to throw the hostages of the cliff.
5. CO went up for negotiation. But as it seemed the negotiations went well, CO was suddenly attacked and beaten badly. His contingent was also chased away. All this happened when dark has descended on the area.
6. As the news of CO getting attacked reached the base, more Indian troops rushed to help. In the meanwhile while being chased down, the some member of Col Babu's party fell into river as well.
7. But the Chinese had numerical advantage as they could call reinforcement lot early than the Indians. Sources tell me the Chinese have a road up to Point 14 while on our side...road is far away
8. A bloody hand-to-hand battle ensued which went on for hours. In between the Point 14 tent was, the cause of acrimony was put on fire. Due to treacherous terrain, reinforcement could not reach on time for Indian soldiers.
9. In the morning, bodies of injured Indian soldiers were recovered
Sources also tell me that Chinese have suffered major casualties in the face-off. Actually the Chinese had brought a JCB for construction work there which proved to be a fatal act
11. Due to JCB...there could be another reason too but most likely due to JCB, the ledge on which the Chinese had gathered to have an up side advantage gave way resulting in deaths of hundreds of Chinese PLA troopers. But the Chinese will never own up casualties.
Sources say the attack on Colonel Babu and his two associates was pre-meditated.
I am going to share a picture here that has come from impeccable sources to give an idea of the area where the face-off took place.
End of thread.
