The @ONlongtermcare released an FAQ document on the updated directives for visitation in nursing and retirement homes: ltchomes.net/LTCHPORTAL/Con…

The details in this document further highlights the restrictive, onerous and even cruel conditions for visitation.

The nonsensical requirement for potential visitors to test negative for #COVID19 within the previous two weeks holds visitors to a higher testing standard than healthcare workers!

As @drlesleybarron writes "I'm a HCW but my first #COVID19 test will be so I can visit my mom"

2/8
The biweekly testing requirement for a weekly visit is ridiculously onerous.

Many visitors will themselves be frail older adults with mobility issues, they're being asked to travel to and from #COVID19 assessment centres, often standing outside in the heat to await testing.

3/8
I have also heard of several nursing and retirement homes asking potential visitors to produce proof of their negative test results - homes are NOT able to ask visitors for their personal health information (PHI) - only an attestation of negative results is required.

4/8
The conditions for visitation, especially for frail older adults, are borderline inhumane:

I am concerned about the use of facemasks in the outdoor heat and humidity and the difficulty in breathing this may cause, something echoed by Dr. Theresa Tam:

5/8
Visitors are also not allowed use the home's washrooms.

As @DrSamirSinha points out, this is very restrictive for older adults who have rates of incontinence as high as 30%: accp.com/docs/bookstore…

@DrVivianS @EMauroCBC @davidcommon @SolidFooting @SueAnnLevy @MoiraWelsh

6/8
The visitation policy is most restrictive for those who are bed-bound and cognitively impaired.

This underscores the inequities in these directives.

The guidance actually suggests that bed-bound residents be transferred outside for a visit!

I implore @celliottability, @DrFullertonMPP (a physician herself!), @RaymondChoPC, @fordnation, @ONThealth, @SeniorsON, @ONlongtermcare, @ONgov and others to reconsider these misdirected, restrictive, onerous, inequitable and inhumane visitation policies.

Enough is enough.
