On / around March 12th of this year you entered into a period of majority home isolation. I've personally felt this was great leadership, by example.
I ask you now to reflect upon this time & consider how you would accomplish this on #ODSP 1/25
You are on the $1,971 Double Disabled rate.
Its just you and your wife. You live at the apartment building on 80 Rideau Terrace. (very near where you live now)
They rent a one bedroom at $1369 per month. 2/25
Because you & ur wife in this scenario are both
disabled you both need a phone in case of an emergency.
Low cost cell phone plans are $45, lets assume you got a family plan from @FreedomMobile where a 2nd line is $15 so $65 after tax 3/25
(Shampoo, deodorant, tooth paste, toilet paper, menstrual supplies, hair removal ) I feel $50 is possible with no perks
4/25
Are you planning on having any kids in this scenario ?
still undecided ? ok, well that means your gonna need condoms. - you don't exactly want a "value brand" when it comes to that am I right ? lol $13 5/25
Do you clean your home ?
or is that a perk ?
6/25
Internet and no cable ?
Lets go modern and say internet.
now.. and there are two of you.
you watch everything on your phones cause you can't afford a tv. (though sometimes you'll watch together on that $100 used laptop you found on Kijiji) 8/25
lets just assume you do.
What's our total at now ?
$1692 - not baad.
Not having a car has been a big help 'eh?.
no gasoline costs or insurance. LOL could you imagine ?
9/25
Clothing expenses. 2 loads wash, 2 loads dry
(you can't even save on drying because most apartment buildings have banned clothes lines)
And 1 item each from the thrift shop $30 dollars. 10/25
Food.
You've spent $1722 and you haven't even eaten yet !
lol silly me.
what was your budget ?
$1971 dollars.
so you have $249 dollars left for food for 2 people for a month.
Oh.. wait, don't go to the Super Market yet..
11/25
so you've each gotta see the doctor at least once a month.
how are you going to get there ?
He or She is 20km away.
You or your wife has a physical disability,
one of you has mental health issues.
this is gonna cost ya..
12/25
accessibility is an issue.
sure you could get onto the bus in your wheelchair,
but the exit point outside your doctor's office, the sidewalks are pretty banged up so you need your wife to help you get down safely.
13/25
$7 dollars each way (so $14 total)
OR you take a wheelchair cab.
that is $15 dollars each way.
but lets go budget, ya wanna eat right ?
so $14 total on bus, 1 doctor trip each per month is $28.
14/25
Do you have pets ?
not any more. can't afford them.
So, you've got $221 dollars per month for you and your wife to eat for the month.
You have $221 for food.
no life insurance.
no car.
no car insurance.
no cable.
no netflix
no going to the movies.
15/25
no visiting your wife's aunt.
can't buy your 3 year old nephew a birthday gift.
you have $221 dollars for 2 people to eat.
this is actually a bit better then a single disabled person
16/25
Can you feed you and your wife for $221 bucks ?
ohh.. the food bank ?
food bank is gonna cost ya.
remember not everything is right around the corner, gonna have to travel. 17/25
so your gonna bring your wife..
will you get the $14 dollar value ?
how much of it will be expired ?
how much of it fits with your allergies or intolerance's ?
how long will your sofa last ?
18/25
will they make it to the next gst cheque ?
how much is rent gonna be when they put it up.
#ODSP hasn't gotten a raise in two years, the way ford talks & acts there may not be another raise for 2 more years.
omg now rent raises are 2.2% ? 19/25
what will rent cost in two years ?
Oh god ! that $1369 per month apartment now
is going to cost $1423 in 2022 ?
if nothing else at all goes up in cost in the next two years
how will I handle feeding me and my wife for $170 ?
20/25
very difficult.. but manageable.
OHHH LOOKY it's COVID-19 !!
You've got health issues, you need medical grade masks.
you need gloves, ppe of all kinds
21/25
Doug Ford said if someone sneezes it could be aerosolized and tracked in on shoes !
22/25
Oh god, I've got to wash my tires now every time i come back into the apartment !
oh.. ok.. well I'll just @Instacart it.
wait what ? $7 dollar delivery fee ?
Delivery fee tax ?
service charge ?
23/25
24/25
You may have $221 for food, if everything goes perfect.
you may not. but its only going to get worse.
But it'll be ok @dougford said he'll help.
@JustinTrudeau said their not alone.
Right ? 25/25
