Since much of media is laser focused on new #COVID19 cases in Texas, here is the rest of the story for some context as of today:
1.6 million tests
7.2% positive rate
63% recovered
2% fatality rate, disproportionately those 80+ years old
Everyone watching hospital capacity for any surge, but so far so good. However, we know the virus does't play by our rules.
Looks like a bump in cases for younger age groups, the vast majority of which will recover at home w/o hospitalization. Maybe we need a reminder: Wash hands, social distance, mask when you can't, stay home if you are ill. Otherwise live your life.
BTW, fatality rate is likely significantly lower. In recent NC sample, 10% tested for antibodies were positive. wral.com/coronavirus/an… Bigger denominator including asymptomatic cases = smaller percentage of fatalities as a % of all cases
There's so much hypocrisy in Democrats' discussions of voting rights. They make sweeping claims of “voter suppression.” Here’s what that looks like:
EARLY VOTING: In MA, early voting lasts a week. In NJ, it lasts nine days. Next year, Biden’s home state of Delaware will allow early voting for the first time, and voters will have ten days.
Meanwhile, Texas and Georgia offer 17 days of early voting.
ABSENTEE VOTING: In New York, Connecticut, Delaware, and other liberal states you have to have a reason for voting absentee. In a number of red states, including GA, you do not.
HHS will be activating another “Temporary Influx Care Facility” for Unaccompanied Alien Children (UACs) in Pecos, Texas. Projected capacity is 500 children, with potential to expand to 2000. HHS believes that the first arrivals will begin 10+ days from now..
.@axios is reporting that DHS has awarded an $86.9 million contract for hotel rooms near the border to house 1,239 aliens from family units. They “do not have to follow the same safety protocols that official government detention spaces do.”
·
Compounding the crisis, DHS says the Migrant Protection Plan, or “remain in Mexico” program, wind-down will soon be expanded. As of Thursday, 2264 aliens previously enrolled in MPP had entered the United States.
The 1/6 attack on the Capitol was horrific & appalling. Those who planned & participated in the violence that day should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I agree w/Speaker Pelosi – a 911-type investigation is called for to help prevent this from happening again.
I’ve had concerns with the process of this second, snap impeachment from the start. This could establish a dangerous, and sure to be used in the future, precedent of impeaching a former President after they have left office.
This practice would, I fear, make impeachments a routine part of our political competition as a tool of the majority party to exact political revenge over the minority party.
As President-elect Biden contemplates re-entering the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on Iran's nuclear activities, the first question we should ask is: Would it prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons? The answer is "no."
Bottom line: we can never allow Iran to get nukes.
Many of the JCPOA’s restrictions on Iran’s nuclear program have expiration dates. For example, after ten years (from January 2016), centrifuge restrictions will be lifted, and after fifteen years, so too will limits on the amount of low-enriched uranium Iran can possess.
Incoming National Security Advisor @GenFlynn was sandbagged by Comey’s henchmen and convicted in a dubious abuse of government investigative power.
Then Comey orchestrated the appointment of Special Counsel Mueller and a two year investigation of alleged collision and obstruction ensued, resulting in no charges against POTUS.
