Solar Power, Case and Investment Thesis (for corporate/industrial companies) and all of us end user (thread). Inspired by Blackout tonight.

Here is how your electricity bill looks like. The main numbers to think about are the consumption units and the total monthly bill.
How does this look over the year? There are months you spent significantly higher.
Pay attention to the unit cost- consolidated tax inclusive cost is around 21.93 Kes/unit to Kes 23.64. Or an average of , $22cents/unit
Could #solar be a viable solution? Here is why we should consider it to begin with:

-Uses rooft, that we often don’t use.
-Massive advances in tech (inverter, panel and optimizers)
-More knowledgeable EPC/designBuild companies like @QuestworksKenya
-plenty of sun ☀️ here
If we decide that it’s worth looking at #Solar where should we look with our consultants?
What Key considerations should we consider for Solar Project Sizing and Development
- Demand 💥
-Space -roof /ground
-Investment $
Let’s look at demand. Assess demand profile.
-Ask Much power is used during the day night on weekdays
- Same for weekend. This info affects the size.

See demand profile line. Steep one means that there is high demand periods.
How do you size #Solar systems? 2 main approaches

-size maxizer (fill roof, fill land, fill demand)
-optimizes sizing (maximize roof, net present value and demand)

Watch out for averages. Solar consumption like production is all stochastic/probalistic and asymmetric.
What method would we need to follow:

Methodology
-Assess demand profile
System sizing
Site survey
Technical assessment
-design
-Inverters
-panels
-optimizer
-monitoring
-Rooft& structural asssements
-Maintainance considerations
-Warranties
Let’s assume tech makes sense. You recall Kes 22/ watts? The way to see if we can get a return by investing in solar is to look at Levelized Cost of Energy of several financing plans

These are;
-Cash
-Cash & Equity
-Lease (don’t invest yourself but just take 20% -30% discount
Big news:

A PVSyst or excel model of #Solar will show a unit cost below Kes10 if paid cash

If you are paying Kes 22, you could easily do either of the followng
-Spend cash
- Get a discount off your hills/no investment
-borrow &invest
