It does not have to be the exclusive place where thinking takes place: Conversations, talks, emails, WhatsApp messages are also where thinking takes place.
In other words, work with the end in mind. It will focus your mind and hone your intellect.
If you make it a habit to regularly take notes on things that are relevant and important, you'll never be at a loss when it comes to writing time.
In other words
Time spent worrying about whether we have the right process, or if we are using the right tools is better spent just following a process.
At every point in our research process, we have multiple places where we can go.
Follow the most interesting path.
Archivists and librarians organize according to topics.
It suits them. But it's not for writers and researchers.
They are not collecting for the archive but marshalling resources for a future campaign.
