[THREAD]
Background:
- David was once fired from a job for being a poor writer
- He now makes a full time living as a writer and is able to support himself living in one of the most expensive cities in the world (NYC) with his writing business

What are the BENEFITS to Writing Online? ⬇
- Writing online is the fastest path to Internet Success
- "Writing is the language of the Internet" - David
- You are not rewarded for having original ideas necessarily but rather for your ability to *communicate* ideas
- When you have the attention of 1000s of people...
you are like a keynote speaker with a big audience
- You can make a FT living just from being able to communicate brilliant ideas to strangers on the internet (David makes 7 figures with ZERO paid advertising)

Now you know the Benefits

Let's dive into David's Writing System
# 1 Build a System to Capture Ideas
Mindset: Stop seeing yourself as a Writer and start seeing yourself as a Curator

When you have a system to capture interesting info you come across

you will never run out of material to write about.

You go from scarcity to abundance.

⬇⬇
Every day you come across a plethora of great ideas & info on the internet:
- Articles/Blogs
- Socials
- Books

3 Ways to Start Capturing the best ideas from these sources:
- Kindle/Apple books
- Instapaper + IFTTT
- Webpages + Liner (app)

Put everything you find into one...
giant Notebook such as Evernote.

Ideas you should look out for? Anything that's
+ Inspiring
+ Useful
+ Personal
+ Easily lost

"As the number of notes go up linearly, the number of connections you have goes up exponentially " 🤯

Your notebooks should be split into 2: ⬇⬇
1) Hot
- Project based. Ideas specific to the essay/project you are writing.
2) Cold
- Info based. Anything that interests you.

Once you have a solid capture system set up

the ideas that form your writing will self-assemble.

Now let's talk about the actual Writing.
#2 How to Improve your Writing

Writing is a skill that is LARGELY misunderstood.

This misunderstanding stems from how you are taught to write in school.

In school, you write for ONE person (your teacher)

Online, you write for the world.

⬇⬇
Mindset: If you can speak, you can write.

You don't have "talker's block", so why have writer's block?? 🤔

Basic writing tips:
✅Clear sentences
✅Create a rhythm
✅Link your sentences
✅Eliminate anything that’s confusing
✅Add colorful details
✅Remove unnecessary words
Don't just write words. Write music.

When your writing has rhythm, it will flow better and be More READABLE.

Learn to wrap up your ideas in stories. Basic story format🎥:
1- Set up
2- Conflict
3- Resolution

Now you understand how to write, How about growing your Audience?
# 3 How to Grow an Audience

David's 2 Step Approach for Growing an Audience
1) Grow📈 audience on OPEN platforms - aka Social Media
2) Build 🏗 relationships on OWNED platforms : email list/newsletter, podcast, website

Mindset: Build a Personal Monopoly

⬇⬇
When you have your own audience with both open and owned platforms

you will "own a tiny sliver of intellectual real estate"

or as I call them Digital Assets.
