The rumors are true! Season 2 of #amphibia will begin airing 7/11. And best of all, THIS YEAR WE'LL BE WEEKLY! I have a lot to say about all this. Begin thread👇
Firstly the crew has put their heart and soul into these seasons, and have done it all despite the horrid state of the world. I can't overstate how grateful I am to each and every one of them.
A big goal of mine this year is to make sure the artists/writers/editors and other team members actually get recognized, something that was almost IMPOSSIBLE to do with the binge roll out last year.
I'm not going to sugar coat it. I really disliked the binge style rollout last year. Okay fine. I hated it. It makes sense for a streaming service where you can choose when and how to binge. But for linear...? It's utter nonsense.
The binge rollout made it very difficult for our team to promote themselves and their work; something we all actually count on to network and get future gigs. I can see this being an issue for binge styled streaming shows. When you watch 20 episodes in rapid succession...
...you're a lot less likely to notice who boarded what episode. Or who wrote which story. Or anything, really. You're just ravenously consuming.
I sort of think the relationship between the content and the consumer is weird atm. It feels like in 2020 the audience picks up shows, binges them quickly, and then grows bored and moves on. Weekly rollouts can help to create better investment in long form storytelling.
Lastly the binge strategy creates UNBEARABLY long hiatuses, punishing fans. End rant/

Anime is so mainstream now it's crazy to think only 10 years ago it was derided and mocked constantly by the American animation industry at large. Y'all really loved it up there on that high horse.
Flash forward to Avengers Infinity War and that one fight on Titan was literally ripped from Dragonball or Naruto.
"It's just so weird!" "The action is good but the writing...?" "There's just no character acting" "it's so choppy and cheap looking"
