Surprising no one, democracy failed again. It's time we explain how Canada became extremely gαγ.

George Grant's
Lament for a Nation
Chapter One
"But Jackson, how is this relevant to us AMericans in the current ye-"
But, before we get into the book proper, we're doing the intro. As you may guess by the foreboding, Grant correctly intuited that the Anti-Americanism of the 70s was imported from America itself; Canada self-owned by embracing it, bc it defined "Americanism" *on America's terms.*
This isn't to say Grant was 100% correct, of course. In particular, he underestimated how completely insane the CIA was and that they'd deliberately sabotage the 20th century's best American president.
As you'll come to understand, there's a reason indeed that George Grant's particular brand of conservatives were called "red Tories." (nb: this is, of course, referring to Pierre Trudeau, not his ostensible son)
There's always been a particularly American conservative disdain for Canadian progressives that was never put into words. "Smug" didn't really do it, though it was close. But here Grant nails it: Canada is functionally the American trustafarian left expanded to an entire country.
And, as the note on Heidegger might have indicated, Uncle Ted aficionados are going to find this book very comfy indeed. Technological determination, but for 🏳️‍🌈.
And this is where the real value of the book is: showing American conservatives how we failed so they can avoid the same pitfall. That pitfall is the failure to TOTALLY REJECT ANGLO SYSTEM. "Parliament = pride march,"
write that down until you've got it memorized!
Now, if you're wondering what "the annexation manifesto" refers to, read this and if you want to laugh please remember that Canada is not a serious country.
Seriously, Americans, George Grant is your secret weapon. All of this can be generalized to Europeans as a whole, and it's all just as damning.
This introduction is for the second edition, so Grant uses it to address the critics of the first edition of the book. Canadian nationalists asked, to put it in 21st century terms, "Why are you so blackpilled? How does saying we were always fucked help anything?" The response:
Grant's OTHER defence of the book is that the American system is inevitable, but also inevitably self-destructive. There's your optimism." It seemed like he was wrong for a while, but unless America gets their shit together on industry vis-à-vis China then he's got the last laugh
With that done, it's time we read the first chapter proper. Which brings us back to here, with the last decent Canadian Prime Minister destroyed in a cultural revolution. This book serves as a case study and an autopsy. I hope you Yankees will learn something from it.
And the journos never stopped, from Diefenbaker to Thatcher, to Harper, to Trump. Only the English could export a system of politics this deranged while also being this regular.
The other reason for directing attention to this book is that Grant is as vicious as Nietzsche, with whom he shares the skill of being able to destroy entire ideologies and art movements with single aphorisms.
Given that Underhill was a literal communist, this is yet another case of "agreeing with leftists for the wrong reasons," lol.
(bonus point: play this while you read this paragraph )
OK, I misspoke, the liberal-globalist script HAS changed slightly, and for the worse. ("America is already great," as the resist drones put it)
But seriously, if you swapped "Diefenbaker" and "Canada" for "Trump" and "America" would anyone be able to tell the difference? Hell, you don't even have to change "American empire" lol.
Our chapter ends not with mere black pills but straight-up black fentanyl. And it's only going to get worse next time.
Next time: we remember what they took from us.
