USA: In numerous horrendous arrest videos that are indistinguishable from assault videos with black victims at the hands of Policemen & women, one thing is becomes clear: Crossing paths with police in the USA while black is the closest thing to an extrajudicial death sentence.
To all currently engaged in fixing this unacceptable state of affairs in the USA, I say this: you will achieve nothing durable or deep unless you deconstruct & redefine the very political ethos at the heart of that country’s perception of itself, or else;
this “As abroad, so within!” culture of the US executive branch, which has become apparent to all, will continue unabated. This is a transformative moment to be seized, not only at superficial levels of “police reform in race relations” but deeper, questioning the very legitimacy
of #directviolence as a means of politics abroad & domestically. Clearly this is a #RaceMeetsClass issue in which darker skin is prejudged - by the current law & order p.o.v - as an indicator for deviance & as a threat to the status quo. As inherited from US #LongShadowsOfHistory
Make no mistake, there remains to this day a deep sexualised dimension of white male fear of black virility in all this appauling mess the world is witnessing. The need to control black bodies by hook or by crook is also linked to a psychopathological fear of black manhood.
How so? A multicultural country as deeply segregated along phenotypical criteria as the US has managed to remain to this day, has over time normalized many ingroup prejudicial constructs about “the other” living just down the block, but hardly ever spoken to or interacted with.
So from my #SolveTheUnderlyingConflict perspective, what follows? As I have said elsewhere, for those of you, like @shaunking et al who are risking it all to fix this, some very basic notions & points in US society need REDEFINING see: & #PolyCulturallism
From a #peacestudies101 perspective, the therapy needed to heal the current gaping wound that are race relations in the USA, would combine (A) #TRAUMACONCILIATION literacy & (B) #POLYCULTURALISM. These are two central approaches to sustainable #PeacePolitics in our age.
In closing this thread, a reminder, that this very problem has been touched upon before on this twitter platform. See for points made then in 2018, just as relevant for the USA now, as they have been since 1492!
