CONFIRMED: @Starbucks will pause all advertising on Facebook and all other social media platforms.

That large companies are rethinking not just Facebook, but ALL social platforms is an incredible step forward and one that needed to be done.

It should also be done with programmatic advertising, which allows corporations to monetize hate and disinfo without their knowledge.
The idea that advertisers should send their money through companies like @google and @facebook to outlets without any vetting or enforcement of rules is just as ridiculous as monetizing content on social media that comes from racists and shady disinfo peddlers.

.@YouTube has monetized harassment and there’s no recourse for its victims. None.
2/ Matt here. I have now had two personal friends become victims of @YouTube conspiracies. They’ve received tons of death threats, had to change their numbers and even move out of their homes for a little while. They were powerless to stop it.

Yet, @youtube *profited* from it.
3/ Our current laws are not set up to deal with what our social media platforms are doing to private citizens.

@youtube @facebook and @twitter are indemnified from any legal recourse for people’s lives being turned upside down as a result of their lax moderation standards.

What an amazing platform you’ve built, @jack.
Imagine being an advertiser that shows up on the very next tweet.

This is the scam of social media from @twitter to @Facebook to @YouTube. Monetize literally everyone’s voice, even the worst of society, when advertisers would never be seen even close to anywhere else.
This is the kind of person he is. How this platform could elevate him to @verified status is just unconscionable.
