There are, broadly speaking, 4 themes to the approach taken by the court:

Judges participating in the judicial roundtable noted the Court of Appeal’s decision in Re L (2000), which directed family courts that they must make every effort to maintain contact between children and both of their parents & a finding of domestic abuse is not a bar to contact.

PD12J specifies that when deciding on child arrangements where domestic abuse has been found, the court must ensure that any order for contact will not expose the child to an “unmanageable risk of harm” and will be in the best interests of the child.
