In 1980, 2 Israeli journalists investigated story that senior Israeli officials were behind secret FLLF "terrorist" campaign in Lebanon. The Israeli military censor killed the story. I wrote about this in October 2019: mondoweiss.net/2019/10/it-is-…

John Gunther Dean passed away in June 2019. NYT and other US papers ran obituaries. A few (incl. NYT) did mention the assassination attempt, & Dean's claim about Israel's involvement. Not one made a reference to Bergman's revelations. nytimes.com/2019/06/11/obi… Image

August 27, 2012: David Remnick, in profile of Mossad Director Meir Dagan for @NewYorker, reveals that in 1980-81 two Israeli journalists investigated story that Dagan & other senior Israeli officials were conducting secret #terrorist campaign in Lebanon 1/ newyorker.com/magazine/2012/…
The 2 journalists are Yigal Sarna and Anat Tal-Shir. They worked for Yediot Ahronot. Sarna told Remnick that their story was killed by the Israeli military censor. Dagan confirmed to Remnick that this had happened, although he denied the actual thrust of that story 2/ ImageImage
A few days later, on the blog of @972mag, Noam Sheizaf mentioned Remnick's story and quoted Sarna as agreeing that "the censorship [on these stories] has been on for years. Horrifying things were done there, not just planned" 972mag.com/what-covert-op… ImageImage

There is a fascinating (&completely forgotten) historical case that helps illustrate how US answer to this Q has been BOTH "Absolutely!" & "Not at all!": 1983 Rangoon bombing, where N Korean agents tried to kill S Korean President

In his PUBLIC speeches, Reagan repeatedly called attack "Terrorism" & "State sponsored Terrorism" (a term that was used for the very first time by a US President in reference to the attack vs the US Marines stationed in Beirut also in Oct 1983) & said that NK was a "T State"

Similarly, in its yearly report on "Patterns of Global Terrorism" the State Department called the Rangoon bombing "the most vicious terrorist attack in Asia in 1983" and described the perpetrators as "North Korean Government terrorists"
