3/8 In just a few seconds in a BBC interview he did so much damage in his desire to provide those all important political soundbites.
He dismissed the Black Lives Matter campaign as a mere moment when in fact it’s a movement against state sanctioned racism and oppression

4/8 that has been decades in the making.
He made it all about America when police brutality against black people is a reality here in the UK.
He didn’t appear to have done his due diligence about what ‘defunding the police’ really means.

5/8 It’s about bringing meaningful structural change into the police service.Police reform that has failed to be delivered,despite a raft of race equality legislation and top level rhetoric. It means creating safer communities not through criminalising people but by investment

6/8 - like youth and employment programmes.
I care deeply about being an anti-racist. I always take my lead from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) friends and colleagues with the lived experience of racism - overt, unwitting, institutional - that I’ll never have.

7/8 Furthermore, as a volunteer Trustee of StopWatch- a small influential BAME led charity that campaigns for fair and accountable policing - I can see that Keir Starmer is totally wrong.

8/8 His remarks yesterday have made it untenable for me to remain a member of the Labour Party and I am therefore resigning as a member in order to campaign more fully for economic and social justice for all.
