Comments submitted to County Supervisor @curthagman regarding his recent update regarding Racism being declared a public Health Crisis by the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors: “In reading your update today regarding the resolution that Racism is a Public Health Crisis
I am concerned. I am concerned as 3 out of the 5 statistics you site point to how the educational system in our county is failing black students yet only one of the eight action items even attempts to address this issue. Is the Board of Supervisors giving @SBCo_Supt_Ted
and the many districts in the county a pass on their contribution to this crisis?

Given the statistics that you site, I would think that education reform would be the number one issue on the table with School Choice at the top. Instead, @GavinNewsom has just put forth a budget
that seeks to keep students trapped in failing schools by limiting funds to Charter Schools.

I know in a local school district, Central School District, African-American students are one of the sub groups that is consistently failed by their schools. In fact, in a local
elementary school, Central Elementary, 81% of Black students do not meet standards in Math and 75% of Black students do not meet standards in English. We can and should do better by these students. How will change happen if the problem is ignored?

If this public health crisis
is going to be mitigated, we must be willing to look at the facts and address them in meaningful ways. Otherwise, it’s nothing more than a platitude.”
