[Thread] @AIPAC says: “The U.S.-Israel partnership keeps us safe.”

So, let’s talk about what actually keeps us safe.
We already know that in both the U.S. and in Israel, not everyone’s safety and dignity is seen as worth defending. Too often, in both countries — as in other places — efforts to ensure the safety of one community directly leads to harm and domination of another community.
This has created a climate of violence. In the U.S., that has looked like Jews shot in synagogues, Black Christians murdered in churches, Black people killed by police, immigrants in cages and attacked by gunmen, resources withheld from communities of color.
In Israel-Palestine, that violence in order to “keep us safe” has looked like an endless military occupation, brutal repression of dissent, denial of resources to Palestinians + Mizrachi Jews, and now, formal annexation and apartheid.
When people whose lives are not valued by the ruling governments that make or enforce laws, we know the answer is NOT to shut the door behind us and post an armed guard outside or at a checkpoint.
Our safety will not come by engaging in state violence and domination.

Our safety will not come by evicting people, withholding essential resources, building walls, or sending teenage soldiers into Palestinian refugee camps.

True safety is not having another place to flee to.
True safety means being safe where we are, where we live, side-by-side with our neighbors, where we all have what we need to thrive.
