I respect pronouns & understand being misgendered can be triggering. I know what it's like to feel triggered. When recovering from sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment or plain olde misogyny, having a man/male presence around can be triggering even with no bad intent1
After sexual assault, it took me a long time to feel comfortable being around my DAD. Not because he had EVER done anything bad towards me. But because he is a man and men had violated and invaded me and my life.2
I don't have a choice in how misogyny is dealt to me. I can't Self ID out of it. I have to find the best possible way to cope with it and, little by little, do what I can to eradicate it3
Being triggered is, in part, why I made girl/woman/female space my business. It's not "just" about the possibility of violence. Most people arent violent. It's the simple sense of security that comes from a female only space & not seeing an image that created the feeling of fear4
I wish that there was no misogyny, no sexual harassment, no assault, no rape, no FGM, no murder, that every person in the world felt safe around each other, that women didn't fear men and that men didn't exert power over women. But that is just not the world we live in.5
I created this company while recovering from years of sexual assault & harassment. I've experienced intense misogyny while creating it - including fighting men who believe they can run a female only company better than me. Ive fought every step of the way.6
There are girls/women/females all over the world who don't have a voice and CAN'T have a voice. The fight for girls/women/females is nowhere near over just b/c a certain type of woman in your community appears privileged. All women need a space where they won't be triggered.7
So, I will continue to and always respect what triggers you & ensure I am not a culprit of disrespect. I will always treat you how you want to be treated. But please, give us the same respect in return. End
