In case you haven’t been following the med school admissions debacle, students are being pushed out of this admissions cycle, & it’s dire. Here’s some background.

-LSAT, GMAT, etc have gone remote due to COVID. The MCAT, however, is still required to be taken in person.

1/
-Students who were scheduled to take the MCAT have had tests canceled, rescheduled, and canceled for months now. They can’t get through phone lines, and emails are not answered efficiently.

2/
-A new MCAT format has been adopted (2 hrs shorter) to accommodate more testers in a day. The new exam is being offered 6 am to noon, noon to 6 pm, and 6 pm to midnight. 6 pm to midnight?? 😰😱

3/
-@EthicalStudents have been working hard to survey current applicants to understand their concerns. They have put together a thorough document detailing the issues, including accommodations, and they’ve sent this to the @aamc. Read it here:

Now they’re asking for our help. We may not be able to affect @aamc policy, but we can advocate for more equitable policies at our own medical schools.

To help, all you need to do is follow the link (next tweet) to send a letter on your behalf with 3 requests.

5/
1. waive the MCAT for this year’s admissions cycle and redact previous scores at applicant’s request
2. push back the application transmission date to Aug 1
3. examine admissions processes to make them more equitable moving forward

Of course you can also contact your local admissions office however you like. This letter just makes it easy so you can do it now. I mean right now, like this very second!

Let's do it!
