Kudos to @SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m for a terrific piece calling for accountability measures for @ONC_HealthIT #Interoperability rules. healthaffairs.org/do/10.1377/hbl… #healthIT @UCSF
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF Importantly, they start by saying that we need to measure if 'Patients Can Access A Full, Structured, Longitudinal Set Of Electronic Health Information’; the rule is clear on this point… and we need to see that it is being achieved. @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom They go on to recommend that we determine and be accountable for whether… 'Patients Can Contribute, Or “Write,” To Their Health Record’ Again something that should happen…but does it?
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom The third proposed area of accountability is that 'Dynamic, Longitudinal Shared Care Planning Is Accessible To Patients, Providers, And Non-Clinical Caregivers’ - and what is important is that it is not summary of care but a true dynamic, longitudinal shared care plan.
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom And then another proposed area of accountability is that 'Robust Third-Party App Ecosystem Available And Used’; EHR APIs must not hinder innovation and should put patients in the pilot seat for their data. All of it. Too often patients still are shielded from their own data!
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom And where is the federal report card on health system compliance with adherence with regulations about patients access to their digital health data? Still, even simple parts of the record, like the discharge summary or op reports are held back. Paternalism? Or what? C’mon.
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom They finally propose accountability for information blocking… how often are people blocked from their own data… this ubiquitous practice must stop… transparency for patients; access to their digital data…it’s time.
@SavageMeHealth @AaronNeinstein @j_r_a_m @ONC_HealthIT @UCSF @HugoOC @ePatientDave @TheLizArmy @BraveBosom The user-centric health information marketplace, so well described by @zakkohane and @mandl can only flourish if people gain true access to their data. This is ever more possible as virtual care expands. Choice will reign if their data are not held back from patients.
