Do you want to get to Mars or just write articles about it? Well, it turns out we are going to have to write articles about it — lots of them — to get to Mars.
Who's we? It's not about "tech companies", it's about the tech community. The global network of technological progressives, who believe in Progress with a capital P. The business of tech was always just a means to an end. theatlantic.com/science/archiv…
As a general principle, for any technology the community wants to drive forward, we must own the discourse around the keyword.

Bitcoin taught us this. If you write with more energy and more zeal than the opponents, that technology will win in the long run.
Of course, we'll need art & literature & movies too. But we can take a data-driven approach.

Find a tech you want to advance. Analyze the sentiment around it with something like ahrefs or buzzsumo. Determine how much content you'd have to get out to swing it. Then swing it.
Winning keywords on search & social is something we know how to do. It's highly quantifiable & depersonalizes conflict. The daily sentiment dashboard around each keyword serves as a kind of editorial desk. Trouble on the Mars front? Prioritize it for positive content.
Media corporations try to optimize prestige but often settle for optimizing for clicks. They need to pay the bills.

However, optimizing *sentiment* around a keyword like Mars or Bitcoin is something a decentralized community can more easily do. It's essentially pure activism.
Importantly, clicks & prestige are both measurable, the latter by awards. Both are legacy measures.

Sentiment was hard to measure till recently, thanks to NLP. Optimizing for sentiment around (say) Mars or life extension may get something very different. sriramk.com/building-unmea…
Clicks & prestige are also internally zero sum metrics for a decentralized activist community.

But sentiment is not. You're convincing the external world something is a good idea. Fill up the sentiment bar to go to Mars. Even if not a rocket scientist, post in support of one.
In this vision, decentralized tech media wouldn't be for profit. It would be pure activism by technological progressives.

Hyperbitcoinization, Mars, life extension: that's the goal. The specific company or process that delivers it is a detail.
