The trope of the "diseased immigrant" is as old as racism. What's horrifying about this proposed rule is that it will be used not only for COVID-19, but *any* public health issue, in the US or elsewhere. 
But isn't this necessary? We're all scared of deadly diseases.

Also, we *already have* laws making immigrants inadmissible for diseases of public health significance. In fact, it's the very first ground of inadmissibility listed in the Immigration & Nationality Act, Sec. 212(a)(1).

This regulation ties together the typical talking points of the anti-immigrant movement: disease, immigrant, and border security. I'm sure the #TantonNetwork was behind this rule.

And we're the hotspot for COVID-19, but have no problem deporting infected immigrants. ICE detainee data shows soaring numbers of infections in poorly run private prisons.
