One year ago, I called a special session to respond to the gun violence epidemic in Virginia. I asked legislators for votes and laws—but neither happened.

Today, I was proud to sign seven commonsense laws that will prevent gun violence in our Commonwealth and save lives.
If we can’t change minds, we must change seats. That’s what Virginians did in November—they said enough is enough. They made it clear that they were tired of the status quo, tired of tragedies, and tired of inaction.

And this year we took action.

This is why elections matter.
I want to thank all the legislators who sponsored these bills, and those who voted for them.

I want to thank the courageous advocates, survivors, and victims' families for their tenacity and tireless work.
