Pal Dynasty:Who linked Bihar and Tibet
After decline of Harsh's Empire Pal Empire was founded by Gopal who was an elected King in upper Gangetic Valley form 7th century to 10th century.
Gopal defeated Pratihar who were ruler of Gaud (Bengal) and unified Gaud and Magadh
Pratihar took shelter in Western desert.
Pal, Rashtrakut and Pratihar were contemporary.
They all wanted to capture Kannuaj which was rich in resources,Trade education and agriculture.
Kannauj was established by Kany Kubj Dynasty who were descendent of Rishi Vishwamitra.
After Gopal his Son Dharmpal became the ruler.
Dharmpal had good connection with Tibeten Budhisht.
He revived Nalanda University and founded Vikaramshila University on bank of Ganga in Magdh.
Budhisht scholers like Dipanker, Santrakashit introduced new kind of Budhism where
they merged patronage with Shaivism and Vaishnav.
As a result Tibeten Budhist flocked in Nalanda and Vikramshila for study.
Dharmpal founded 200 villages exclusively to bear expenditure of University.
Growing prosperity in Bengal helped in extending trade to Burma,Malaya,Java
and Sumatra.
Dharmpal could not consolidate his power in north and Pratihar revived under Nagbhatt in 790.
Dharmpal got defeated in Munger but East UP (Purvanchal) remained a connection between Pal and Pratihar.
