This #SundayMorning, we're keeping an eye on ole Billy Barr. He's been busy this week further eroding independence at the DOJ.

You'll remember he last made headlines when he botched the firing of SDNY's Berman. What's Barr up to now?

(2) While Barr has been claiming he didn't recommend letting Roger Stone off the hook, behind closed doors he's busy maneuvering to protect the President and his cronies by ousting another US attorney, this time at EDNY.

This will turn out to be messy.

(3) The US attorney should go through approval in the Senate, but Barr has exploited a loophole to sidestep that and install another loyalist in the position.

Why the rush? EDNY is investigating the former head of Trump's inaugural committee, Tom Barrack.

(4) Barr is in a pretty rocky position at the moment, hedging outright revolt among the DOJ as he moves to reshape the department into a team of Trump's fixers.

It's one of the reasons Shea may be stepping down after doing Barr's dirty work in DC.

(5) It's not a surprise that Barr wants to turn the Justice Department into an authoritarian enforcement unit. After all, he's been signaling his intent for some time.

He's faced widespread resignations & censure in the DOJ from both sides of the aisle.

(6) While Barr can essentially obstruct any action against Trump and his kleptocracy from the federal level, he can't control state and local law enforcement officials.

As Cy Vance's victory at SCOTUS highlights, the President isn't above the law.

(7) Trump may be hiding behind the power of the Presidency for now, but current polling indicates he'll lose that shield come November.

This is where things get dangerous for what's left of American democracy. Will Barr try to invalidate the election?

(8) Barr is hard at work ignoring cybersecurity risks to our voting systems and encouraging voter intimidation and the undermining of voting rights.

The question is, with a President down double digits in nearly every state in the union, will it work?

(9) In the end, the courts would need to rule on any action the DOJ takes to invalidate the election results.

And there's some hope that SCOTUS would not take kindly to the interference in our democratic systems or Barr's subversion of the rule of law.

(10) In short, Barr is shoring up a crumbling empire. He can try to rebuild the DOJ as a fortress for his king, but the blue wave is coming. And it will wash away Barr's authoritarian regime when the tide changes in Washington.

113 days.
