Had to take my son to the orthodontist today and what I encountered appalled me.

I’ll do my best to describe the specifics but let’s just say that in the same way that the TSA conducts security theater, Utah businesses are conducting public health safety theater.

(2) I was greeted by a receptionist who asked to take my son’s temperature and that we sign a waiver regarding current health concerns.

This would have been great except that the receptionist was wearing her face mask below her nose. 🙄

(3) They also didn’t disinfect the pens they were handing out to complete the questionnaire. And while we were asked to wait outside until our hygienist was ready, when she did call us back her face mask wasn’t on at all.

She lowered her face mask every time she talked to us.

(4) I also watched her attach instruments without gloves. Instruments that went into my asthmatic kid’s mouth.

Later, she handed us wax and bands, all without her face mask on and her bare hands.

(5) I also watched office staff remove trash without gloves and was shocked to find the drinking fountains were still open in the lobby for patient use.

What I saw today made it clear that we’re going to have more deaths unless @UtahDepOfHealth enforces business guidelines.

In terms of my response, I admit to being initially stunned. I had called ahead and had a lengthy conversation with the office about their protocols and my concerns. What I saw didn’t really align to that.

We will, of course, be looking for a new orthodontist.
