In the next 10 minutes: @CharMeckSchools will meet and decide the plan for school in the fall
More than 3000 viewers wow facebook.com/cmsboe/videos/…
Plan C supporters are lighting up the comment section. Meeting hasn't started yet
CMS is meeting in person today because "a lot of people have pointed out that if we are even considering bringing people back in the classroom then we shouldn't be doing it on Zoom." - Chair @elysedashew
It's not just you. This feed is a mess #CMSBd
Gibbie Harris says one of her concerns is testing and having enough testing available. She says she wants rapid testing available if CMS opens schools. Meck County doesn't have direct access to that. Harris says she pushed the CDC Director for this when he was in town
"So far nobody's crystal ball has worked too well." - Gibbie Harris
Gibbie Harris says it becomes a problem if you can't get COVID-19 test results back within 48 hours. Right now some tests are taking 5-10 days to come back
Harris says she would be concerned if our positivity rate continues to climb (currently 10-11%) and if we see significant increases in our hospitals
Unlike most upper respiratory infections, Gibbie Harris says with COVID 19 children not proving to be super spreaders.
Shoutout to Thelma Byers-Bailey for watching local news #CMSBd
Speaking of local news, it would have been nice if this was a pool camera situation. Testing isn't the only thing lagging. The feed is too.
Gibbie Harris says the perfect school environment keeps people 6 feet apart and in masks with a HVAC system that works well and not a lot of sharing
Harris: "If we can't get the testing results back to a level that is reasonable, then......."

I can't finish the quote because the CMS feed keeps cutting out
Ugh
Gibbie Harris says CDC Director Dr. Redfield is adamant about reopening schools. She says he is concerned about:

- National increases in teenagers dying by suicide
- National increases in teenagers dying due to overdoses
- Child abuse reporting declining
Gibbie Harris says new guidance from the CDC is likely coming out that says if you are in an environment where everyone is wearing masks and social distancing you should not have to worry about exposure to someone testing positive
Sincerely hope this feed isn’t what remote learning is like #CMSBd
This information is too important. CMS should consider pausing the meeting until they can figure out how the public can properly watch the meeting @elysedashew @CharMeckSchools
All online instructional content is provided by CMS. K-2 students are provisioned with an iPad. 3-12 students with a Chromebook
CMS is taking a 5 minute break. They haven't voted on whether they will be doing Plan B or C yet.
Dr. Catherine Ohmstede of Novant says they have:

- Tested 15,000 children
- 2,000 tested positive
- 10 required hospitalization
- 1 was critically ill (with underlying health conditions)
Dr. Catherine Ohmstede of Novant says she and her husband have decided that they will let their 6th and 8th graders return for in person instruction if their school permits it.
Dr. Ohmstede says under 10 the COVID symptoms are extremely mild if there are any at all. Over 12, the older you get, the more severe the symptoms can be. She said there isn't much data right now that shows kids are transmitting COVID to adults
For the CMS Full Remote Academy:

30-40% Synchronous (live teaching)
60-70% Asynchronous (student's pace)
The new CMS feed worked fine for me. Also I will never say anything bad about the CMS feed again because last time I did that I got locked out of tweeting for 2 hours
And I appreciate the WSOC coworker who called me to make sure I wasn't hacked.

No, I meant to retweet this.

This is how I felt at the time
Overheard on a hot mic: "From here on out we are either doing Zoom or the Government Center"
"This absolutely has to be done in front of the public." - Chair Elyse Dashew

She says the meeting will pause if (when) the feed drops out again
CMS plan being discussed:

For the first two weeks of school, students will be separated into 3 groups that will rotate between in person/ remote learning. In week three, all students transition to remote full time indefinitely
The breakdown:

Track A- come in 3 consecutive days (M-W)
Track B- Thursday- Friday, Monday-Tuesday (4 days)
Track C- Remaining 3 days of second week of school (W-F)
Rhonda Cheek is making a motion. First 2 weeks rotation of in person. Week 3 remote. Week 4 starts in person rotation again. Sean Strain seconds the motion
Cheek's motion fails. We are back to the original motion.

First two weeks of school- three groups rotate with 3 or 4 days in school, remote all other days.

Starting week 3- remote indefinitely
Bringing back students for a couple of days in person will allow them to get technology, meet their teachers and get prepared for remote learning, CMS Boardmember Thelma Byers-Bailey said
Chair @elysedashew: "I don't see this as forever remote."
Chair Elyse Dashew calls on the public to wear masks and social distance so numbers go down and kids can safely go back to school in a way that is safer than they can today.

"Our health depends on it. Lives depend on it. Jobs depend on it."
CMS Student Boardmember Gabe Schuhl: "It is unfair to make teachers go to school knowing that they will be susceptible to COVID-19."
Superintendent Earnest Winston says CMS will continue to advocate on behalf of hourly employees to make sure they are taken care of
BREAKING- CMS votes 7-1-1 to adopt the Plan B+ remote plan.

CMS will break students into 3 groups. They will have 3 or 4 days of in person instruction in the first two weeks of school. It will be remote indefinitely starting with week 3
Meeting is over.

"Lord have mercy" someone said on a hot mic before the feed shut off.
If parents aren't comfortable with sending their kids back to school, they can opt for the CMS Full Remote Academy. Families can opt to exit the Academy or enter the Academy mid-year during designated times only (end of semester).
