Here is a summary thread of today’s #COVID19AB update. 8,142 Albertans have now recovered. 69 people are hospitalized with 8 in ICUs. There are 120 new cases out of 8,200 new tests – which is up significantly from yesterday. (1/9)
We currently have 807 active cases in Alberta. I am sad to report two new deaths – bringing our total of lives lost to 165. (2/9)
Three new regions have also been added to the watch list, bringing the total number to seven. These regions are all being monitored closely; no additional measures are being taken. (3/9)
We have heard questions about #COVID19AB cases in some Hutterite communities in the province. Stigmatizing those who get tested or test positive is a barrier to controlling the disease. This virus affects all of our communities. (4/9)
I know this pandemic has been especially difficult on residents in continuing care. Last month, I heard from thousands of residents, families, operators & staff on the impact of these restrictions and ways to safely relax some of them. (5/9)
Alberta will be shifting from a ‘restricted access’ to a ‘safe access’ approach starting on July 23. We believe this will help people remain socially & emotionally connected while still protecting those most at-risk of severe outcomes. View changes: bit.ly/32qpwqb (6/9)
I’d like to remind you that physical distancing matters. It’s 1 of the more effective ways to limit spread. If you’re more than 1m away from someone with COVID-19, you are 5 times less likely to it than someone who is closer &the risk is even lower when that distance is 2m.(7/9)
Indoor exhibits, trade shows, outdoor vocal concerts, wind instrument performances & outdoor hot tubs and whirlpools may open tomorrow. Physical distancing measures and public health guidance will apply. Evidence shows us they are not adding significant levels of risk. (8/9)
I’ve heard reports that parks staff have received verbal abuse. This is not how we should treat people doing their part to keep our parks safe & healthy places to visit. Treat those around you as if they were a person you know & love who is at high risk of a severe outcome. (9/9)
