Let’s talk about Operation Save America, the most influential anti-abortion group you’ve never heard of! Its mission is: 1. outlaw abortion 2. criminalize homosexuality 3. eradicate Islam
Some history: OSA started as Operation Rescue and became infamous when they blockaded a #Kansas clinic for weeks in 1991, an action dubbed “Summer of Mercy.” Imagine facing this kinda nightmare when trying to access BASIC HEALTHCARE #OSAunmasked
Since then they’ve grown and gotten a new, equally stupid name, but the hate remains the same. Now, each summer they hold a jam-packed propaganda-palooza, descending upon a single city and hosting a week of anti-abortion hootenannies. #OSAunmasked
This year, they’re taking it ONLINE, because of the pandemic (that their leaders don’t all quite believe is real). 2020’s shindig is called “Defending the Fatherless." Father is a funny way of saying “Guy who couldn’t pull out in time.” So, WHY SHOULD YOU CARE? #OSAunmasked
Because they harass patients outside of clinics daily, they lobby politicians, they blog and vlog and spread their anti-abortion, Christian supremacist message, but they’re not household names. #OSAunmasked
And look, we don’t want them to become famous, but abortion rights are in serious jeopardy. We wish these walking nightmares were just “fringe,” but in real life they’re influencing people writing laws to block access for vulnerable people. #OSAunmasked
They believe Roe should be ignored (kinda like the politicians who pass 6-week bans) and they believe women making their own choices are VERY BAD. ( SCOTUS just said Jesus Chicken Inc. should be able to make people’s “moral” birth control choices for them!). #OSAunmasked
OSA members have harassed trans kids, they think people who are LGBTQ should be oppressed, they’ve burned the Quran. And again, these extremists are outside clinics harassing patients WEEKLY! #OSAunmasked
It’s time to UNMASK just how monstrous these people are. We’re gonna introduce you to their key players all next week, expose their hypocrisy, and tell it to the whole world! Find our toolkit here to see how you can get involved osaunmasked.com#OSAunmasked

For #My40Days, let’s talk about MINDFULNESS about how we discuss abortion with friends, people who've had abortions, your aunt Linda, your dentist, and so on. Let’s start with a big one: why we’ve (mostly) stopped saying “pro-choice.”
We are ALL about letting people have agency over their decisions. So yes, naturally, “pro-choice” works well for that. #My40Days
But we also have to think about who “pro-choice” leaves out. The healthcare system and the WORLD are effed up and create all kinds of barriers for people who want to be parents. So for some people maybe it’s not a “choice” to have an abortion so much as a necessity. #My40Days
#RBG taught us to stand up to sexist ghouls. Now that she's gone, misogynists are twirling their gross mustaches, gearing up to replace her legacy with an anti-abortion extremist!
Said anti-abortion ghouls have started their crusade with a nationwide clinic troll-a-thon called "40 Days for Life." #My40Days
In this annual event, hordes of uninvited Catholic hatesplainers "stand guard" outside of abortion clinics for 40 days and 40 nights. Really, it's just stalking. #My40Days
Badass of the day: Shirley Chisholm! Today is the 49th anniversary of Chisholm entering the Democratic primary, making her the first Black woman to run for president of these United States.
When she ran for Congress, her slogan was “Unbought and unbossed.” She also spoke truth to power when she said, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.”
When she was elected to Congress — also the first Black woman to do that — they tried to hide her on the ag committee, which took her away from working for the people who actually elected her. Still she rose.
Although she was obstructed by the head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (fuck you forever, Scott Lloyd and your creepy period tracking), she did eventually receive her abortion with the help of the @ACLU, activists, and @JanesDueProcess.
So today we thought we’d tweet out her statement from the time as a reminder of why we fight so hard for everyone to get the abortion care they need:
