GASTROPARESIS THEORIES: the diagnostic list that accompanied the occurrence of Gastroparesis in this study overlooked the association of Gastroparesis & Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder (HSD).
My clinical observations have included that persons with HSD, mostly women, have a functional scoliosis while upright and a straight spine while prone. Spine disks are no more than ligaments; more flexible in those with HSD.
Thoracic scoliosis might functionally, asymmetrically, & mechanically strain soft tissues of the autonomic nerve system, which includes the Vagus Nerve.
Disharmonies within autonomic nervous system tissues transcending the thoracic spine might be expected to arouse dysfunctions of the heart & stomach.
My clinical observations have been that women with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder commonly have a functional scoliosis. They also suffer an increased prevalence of symptoms compatible with Gastroparesis.
Another symptom constellation experience by women with Hypermobility Spectrum Disorder & a functional scoliosis is recurrent syncope, POTS, & mitral valve prolapse (MPV). All these symptoms are likely dysautonomias.
Certainly, women with panic attacks are known to have an high incidence of Mitral Valve Prolapse. IMO, MPV is etiologic underpinning of Panic Attacks. Unfortunately, women with Panic Attacks are most often introduced to the medical system via supposed psychological dysfunctions.
Who is to say that hypotension with sudden upright postures, due to mitral valve regurgitation, causal of lightheadedness, compensatory hypernea, & tachycardia, are not having severe purely physiologic responses.
People with these sudden symptoms might simply feel doom & fear from these overt and scary physiological changes. Yet, doctors speculate that mental aberrations lead to these sympathetic tissue function changes.
Once a patient has been branded, by a Psychologist/Psychiatrist, with mental dysfunction, the stigma is firmly attached to their history. Usually, all doctors who follow the patient thereafter take this lead & discount other causations for their disturbed behavior.
Mitral Valve Prolapse is easily demonstrated via Echocardiogram. Problem with this study is that it is commonly performed with the patient lying down. The better way to do this study is with the patient upright; so that gravitational pull on the column of body-blood is vertical.
