Can self-groups start to meet? Smaller groups perhaps but zoom is still best. Image
The cabinet met in a group larger than two households but our advice is still to meet in smaller groups with ventilation, hand sanitiser - and remembering the importance of not touching your face - perhaps have posters reminding people of this. Image
Question - shielding five year old child with mild asthma. Should childhood asthma still be on the shielding list? Image
It's a matter of balancing risks. Many children are still unsymptomatic. By September when children go back to school you will have to take a personal judgement and consult your local paediatrician. Social contact with other children is important. Image

This week I've seen two studies that make me feel more optimistic about this virus. Reactivity of T-cells is quite high for instance. The peak of a second surge may be substantially lower than we thought. Image
A properly functioning and resourced public health system is vital. If we learn one thing here, it's that the public health system must be fully restored and strengthened. Image
I am less sanguine about a second wave then my colleagues. We should have systems in place that can be used for a later pandemic if they're not used now. Image
Health inequities across the country have been amplified and exacerbated by Covid. We need to think about addressing vulnerability and exposure. Access to healthcare and information needs to be tailored. We can't have good public health without addressing health inequality. Image
We should have followed the principles of shoe leather epidemiology and then we would have the data. Image
Elimination of infectious disease is possible and we have centuries of history of doing this with good public health measures. It's perfectly possible to eliminate this virus and other countries have done this successfully. Image
We're in a virtual steady state with the virus in the country that is far from zero Covid. The government really needs to look at areas where the lockdown has been undine and look at every opportunity for reducing the spread of the disease. Image
Many countries in Europe have isolated people in hotels so they can be cared for and fed. There are obvious areas that need to be really tightened down before we get to the start of the school term and the winter months start.
