This is very inaccurate and misleading. Using cigarette vapors and aromatic compounds released from smoking is not appropriate to illustrate SARS-CoV-2 transmission. (1/4)
From the data we have, the primary route of transmission of SARS-CoV-2 is respiratory droplets. These are emitted in high quantities when speaking loudly, yelling, chanting, singing, coughing, and sneezing.
They fall to the ground and usually travel <2 meters. (2/4)
Can longer range transmission occur? Sure.
Can the respiratory droplets that have landed retain infectious potential for a while (fomites)? Yes.
But these are not the primary source of transmission, from the data we have. They are more the exception than the rule. (3/4)
Vapors and aromatics are a different issue entirely. These last long on surfaces and can aerosolize much further. SARS-CoV-2 does not behave this way. (4/4)
