@VividEconomics presented a huge effort to map land uses in Côte d'Ivoire - which lost 2% of its forest cover IN ONE YEAR
Their data show staggering rates of forest loss for #cocoa in some regions, e.g. Bloléquin
@EarthwormGlobal giving an overview of drivers of forest loss in Côte d'Ivoire, nationally 38% linked to cocoa expansion
Though they have had local successes - they started monitoring and working on the ground in the region of Cavally in 2018, which had dramatically lower deforestation the following year
And @ecometrica doing some similar work in Ghana, here showing a mapping of the land use in one region
@SatelligenceEO showing a recent increase in #deforestation in Ghana, which they say in part be related to #COVID
And also mapping land uses in parts of Cameroon - another major cocoa producer
James Ackworth also presenting on Cameroon, making the point that forest degradation is an oft ignored source of emissions. Degradation is in part driven by the expansion of #CocoaAgroforestry.
James also makes the interesting observation that several companies have dropped references to addressing forest degradation from their sustainability commitments, instead everyone is focused on deforestation...
