Our exec member, the wonderful @TaiwoOwatemi was elected as Coventry North West’s first Black MP in Dec 2019. A former NHS pharmacist, she is now part of the Shadow Home Office team and is already making waves in parliament with her intellect, calm approach and wisdom.

👩Men still hold more than 66% of the seats in the UK parliament despite a record number of women elected in December.
👩🏿Only 34% of councillors are women.
👵Only 24.3 per cent of all national parliamentarians were women as of February 2019, a slow increase from 11.3 per cent in 1995.
👩🏾Rwanda has the highest number of women parliamentarians worldwide, where, women have won 61.3 per cent of seats in the lower house.
👩🏻Globally, there are 27 States in which women account for less than 10 per cent of parliamentarians in single or lower houses, as of February 2019, including 3 chambers with no women at all.
Our exec member, the inspirational Cllr @shaistaAziz has just begun a new role as Head of Media and Comms at @SolaceWomensAid and has been appointed as a commissioner for the Oriel College Independent Inquiry into the Rhodes Statue.
Our exec member, the awesome Cllr @abigailmashall is doing wonderful work in leading FWN North, for all our sisters across the NW, NE, Yorks & Humber. Abi is a huge encouragement to everyone on our EC and we are so grateful to have her expertise on our committee.
Our exec member, the exceptional Cllr @KindySandhu won her council seat from a Tory and has not stopped grafting since. An incredible local representative, Kindy has a doctorate in the impact of austerity on BAME women and is a specialist in an intersectional approach to the GND.
