1. US media should not jump on the recent, false claims by Iranian news agencies on Iran's Nour-1 satellite imaging capabilities. The images circulating in Iranian media provide no basis to claim that Nour-1 has the capability to take high resolution electro-optical spy images.
2. The electro-optical images as published by Tasnim News and others were not taken by the Nour-1 satellite, but are commercially available satellite images as shown in our own analysis and others, @AuroraIntel, @inbarspace.
2 (cont'd) In fact, at least some of the electro-optical images claimed to be Nour-1 satellite imagery is datable to PRIOR the Nour-1 launch of 22 April 2020.
3. We have not gotten to the bottom of whether any of the black pictures in the middle (showing gradational color banding around a few objects like aircraft) were taken by the Nour-1 satellite, or whether the satellite actually has a thermal imaging capability. That imagery..
3 (cont'd) ..cannot be dated, and thus cannot be ruled out as having been acquired by the Nour-1 satellite. However, we have not seen Iranian statements that the satellite has IR capability, and a high enough resolution to show hot aircraft on parking aprons seems impossible ..
3 (cont'd) .. for a satellite the size of Nour. In any case, the use of thermal imagery without coincident electro-optical images is highly limited, especially for identification and monitoring purposes.
4. Iran used the images in a war "game";  they may very well all be concocted. But it is Iran's best interest to have the media hype up their capabilities and the rest of the world guessing. We cannot count on them setting the record straight.
5./5. Conclusion: The released images prove no sophisticated monitoring capabilities by their satellite. At this point, Google Earth and other commercially available imagery acquisitions would still seem to be more reliable and accurate for identification and monitoring purposes.
