1/ Even though I sometimes disagreed with government I never thought it particularly corrupt.Packing the house of lords with relatives and cronies including Russian oligarchs is the final straw. Following on from the Russia report and its impact upon our electoral system. This is
2/ a serious crisis. He has brought me to the conclusion that a simple change of government is not enough. We need a wholesale a form of our constitution and electoral system starting with an electoral pactto ensure PR so one party minority (in popular vote) government is rare.
3/ we then need a more healthy second chamber to revise legislation and which is not so dependent upon patronage by the government of the day. There are alternative methods.We have to ensure that the wealthy cannot buy elections by flooding social media with propaganda and lies.
4/ we should bring back Leveson 2 inquiry to clean up the press. We cannot have wealthy press barons buying elections. If the broadcast media can be subject to basic standards of fairness during general elections then why on earth can we not require the press to do the same?
5/ There are no doubt many other aspects of our political system that need addressing but I think we can make a start in ensuring that our Parliamentary institutions cannot be bought and sold and corrupted by the government of the day and their wealthy backers.
6/ I hope even moderate Conservative can recognise the danger our democracy is now placed in by Johnson and Cummings. We will be electing a horse as a consul next. We need to get behind a moderate reform in government but with a radical agenda to clean up the whole of politics.
7/ I appreciate some on both left and right will balk at this but I think people should consider lending their vote to @Keir_Starmer Labour Party and to Liberal Democrat’s where the latter can win. A pact I believe is the Democratic duty of both parties & the patriotic option.
8/ Once a combination of enlightened parliamentarians has reformed our political process and cleaned it up then we can return to supporting whom we want but now we need a one off election to clear out this corrupt bunch and to start the healing process to cure the sickness. End.
